Oil Painting workshop

19 November 2015

Portrait artist Jane French came into school to deliver a workshop to the A level art students. It was their first time using oil paints and they did spectacularly well! They are all very pleased with their results and really enjoyed the experience. The art department is now going to purchase some oil paints as it really wasn't as messy as anticipated! The girls began by producing a simple monotone image of an eye to get used to the paints before progressing onto a full portrait.

Here are some images from the day as their paintings progressed to the finished pieces.

Fashion Photography Workshop

10 November 2015

Photographer Sarah Brittain-Edwards came into school to deliver a one day workshop.

The girls at LHS benefited hugely from Sarah's knowledge, experience and expertise. She delivered a one day workshop on fashion photography which was both inspirational and extremely educational. Sarah's manner with the girls was professional yet friendly and encouraging. She directed them both in front of and behind the camera resulting in a fantastic series of photographs of which the girls are very proud.  Her advice about working in the fashion gave the girls a valuable insight into what a career in the creative industry is like. I can't thank her enough for her contribution to their learning and leaving them with new sense of purpose for their work.

Letterpress Workshop 18 June 2013

All girls taking AS and A2 Art and Design next year were invited to take part in a workshop with Printmaker and Graphic Designer, Nick Birchall.  The idea was to create a small lino print and add text using the many trays of wooden and metal type that Nick brought into school.
